For Publishers

Joining Portico offers numerous and long lasting benefits and requires only a few simple steps.

The steps for a publisher to participate are:

  • step 1:

    Sign the Portico Publication License Agreement.

  • step 2:

    Agree to deposit electronic journal, book, or other source files in a timely manner.

  • step 3:

    Indicate whether Portico can provide post-cancellation access to content in the archive on behalf of the publisher.

  • step 4:

    Make an annual financial contribution to help support Portico preservation activities.

    Annual financial contributions for the support of the Portico archive for E-Journals by participating publishers are tiered based on a publisher’s total journals revenues (print and electronic subscriptions, licensing, and advertising) as follows. A 5% discount is provided for participating ALPSP members.

    Annual financial contributions for the support of the Portico archive for E-Books by participating publishers are tiered based on a publisher’s total e-book revenues (electronic subscriptions, sales, licensing, and advertising) as follows.

    There is also a one-time set up fee for e-books that ranges from $2,500 to $25,000 depending upon the complexity of the content. The fee is quoted after submission and evaluation of sample e-book files.

    Financial contributions for the support of the Portico archive for D-Collections by participating publishers are quoted after the submission by the publisher and Portico analysis of sample content.

  • step 5:

    Return two signed originals of the License to Portico.
