Portico is a not-for-profit created to preserve scholarly literature published in electronic form. It is also a centralized, geographically replicated repository maintaining formal archiving agreements with publishers and a valuable insurance policy for libraries which addresses their concerns and growing reliance upon fragile electronic content. Service For Libraries

  • The Portico service offers a permanent archive of electronic scholarly journals, thereby providing protection against the potential loss of access to e-literature integral to a library’s collection.
  • Portico provides all libraries supporting the archive with campus-wide access to archived content when specific trigger events occur, and when titles are no longer available from the publisher or other source.
  • Portico also provides a reliable means to secure perpetual access, if participating publishers choose to designate Portico as a provider of post-cancellation access

Service For Publishers

  • Portico receives and normalizes the original source files of electronic journals to an archival format and assummes responsibility for future content migrations.
  • The intellectual content of the journal is preserved.
  • The Portico archive is open to a publisher’s completelist of scholarly journals.
  • Full access to the publisher’s own content via a Portico web portal is provided.
